There was a mild drama, yesterday, at the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, following the arrest of two siblings of an accused, Babatunde Oyetobi, who were caught trying to smuggle 11 wraps of marijuana to their brother in the court’s inmates’ cell.
The two siblings, Shade Oyetobi, 24, and Atinuke Adebanwo, 32, who were apprehended by the prison officers, said they were in court because they knew their brother’s case was coming up yesterday.
One of the siblings, Shade, a hairdresser, who lives in Bale Street Ijora Badia, said her brother’s friend, identified as Jamiu, asked her to hand over the marijuana to her brother.
The second, Atinuke, a mother of three, who identified herself as the elder sister to both Shade and Babatunde, said she did not know that her younger sister had plans to give marijuana to Babatunde in the cell, adding that she normally visited her brother in court whenever his case came up.
The prison officer, A. R. Muhammad, who caught the suspects, said the two sisters approached him that they wanted to see their brother, adding when asked what was inside the cellophane bag they carried, the younger sister said it was a leather slippers.
“On order, she brought out the slippers and on our insistence of total disclosure, we discovered 11 wraps of Marijuana,” Muhammad explained.
Their brother, Babatunde, is on trial for attempted robbery and assaults.
